NOW Digital is proud to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute website. A future-focused digital platform that brings the Institute’s research, impact and ambition to life.
Delivered in collaboration with the Baker Institute team, the new site at http://baker.edu.au has been crafted to support the organisation’s next chapter, as it approaches its centenary in 2026 and prepares to launch a new five-year strategy and brand identity.
Scalable Digital Experience
Our approach was grounded in a clear ambition: to transform the Baker Institute’s website from a trusted information repository into a dynamic, engaging and scalable digital experience.
Working closely with stakeholders, we reimagined the site to better reflect the Institute’s leadership in cardiovascular, diabetes and metabolic research – while building a platform that can evolve alongside its strategic vision and brand.
Built Around Real Audience Needs
Through research and workshops, we identified the diverse needs of the Institute’s audiences – from the general public seeking credible health information, to researchers, clinicians, students and donors.
The new experience introduces:
- Streamlined navigation tailored to different user groups
- Improved search functionality for faster access to content
- Clearer pathways into research, health information and engagement opportunities
These changes ensure users can easily access the depth of content the Institute offers, regardless of their starting point.
A More Engaging and Flexible Digital Experience
We modernised the design system to deliver a more visually rich and engaging experience – bringing the Institute’s work to life through storytelling, imagery, video and dynamic content.
A key component of this transformation was the implementation of Sitecore Search (Composable SaaS) — introducing an intelligent, cloud-based search capability that significantly enhances how users discover content. Powered by AI, Sitecore Search moves beyond traditional keyword-based approaches, interpreting visitor intent to deliver more relevant, personalised experiences. With continuous optimisation through real-time analytics and adaptive ranking, the platform enables smarter content discovery that improves engagement over time.
Key enhancements include:
- Flexible, WYSIWYG-driven content templates for faster publishing
- Implementation of Sitecore Search (Composable SaaS) to power intelligent, AI-driven content discovery
- More dynamic listing and filtering capabilities across research, news and health content
- Improved visibility of people, labs and organisational structure
- Mobile-first, accessible design aligned to WCAG standards
By introducing search as a composable service, the platform is now more adaptable, enabling ongoing optimisation, enhanced personalisation and future integrations without being constrained by traditional CMS architectures.
The result is a digital experience that balances scientific credibility with compelling storytelling.
Built for Performance, Security and Scale
The Baker Institute chose to retain its existing Sitecore XP platform as a stable foundation, we focused on enhancing it with targeted improvements and introducing complementary composable services to extend capability and elevate the overall customer experience.
This included:
- Enhancements to content management workflows
- Improved search performance and relevance through AI-powered composable services
- Secure authoring environment with multi-factor authentication
- Seamless integration with existing tools such as Ortto and Jotform
By combining a trusted foundation with composable capabilities, the Institute is positioned to continuously adapt and innovate as its needs evolve.
A Partnership Driven by Impact
This project is more than a website redesign – it’s a foundational step in helping the Baker Institute communicate its impact, strengthen engagement and support future growth.
We’re proud to have partnered with the Baker Institute to deliver a digital experience that reflects the scale of its ambition and the importance of its work.
As the Institute moves toward its centenary, the new website will play a critical role in sharing its story and connecting with audiences across Australia and globally.
